Sir Ian Holm Cuthbert (born 1931) voiced Frodo Baggins in the BBC radio adaption of The Lord of the Rings. Years later he played Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy; he appeared in the first and third installments of the series.

It is a well-known fact in the film world that Ian Holm completely changes his performance with each re-take.

Ian Holm is the father of Harry Holm, who played Elanor Fairbairns in the 1981 radio series.

"Bilbo is a character to whom things seem 'to happen'! But once put to his mettle, once put to the test, he comes up trumps."
― Ian Holm, The Lord of the Rings Official Movie Guide
"These things are like boats with toes."
