Iris was a colourful and distinctive flower. Frodo and Sam found it growing in Ithilien, and the Gladden River and the Gladden Fields took their name from a variety of this flower. The 'iris-swords' mentioned in The Lord of the Rings are a reference to its thin, pointed leaves.
