John Benjamin Tolkien (1807 - 1 August 1896[1]) was J.R.R. Tolkien's grandfather, being Arthur Tolkien's father. He was born in Middlesex, London. He was a piano maker, teacher, and tuner.

His first wife was Jane Holmwood, with whom he had had four children: Emily (1838), Lousia (1840), John Benjamin (1845), and Jane, (1846).
