Karen Lea Wynn Fonstad (April 18, 1945 – March 11, 2005) was the author of the popular Atlas of Middle-earth.
Life
Karen Wynn was born and raised in Oklahoma, spending her later years in Wisconsin. She attended the University of Oklahoma, where she received a M.A. in Geography. Her speciality had been cartography, and she would spend much of her life as a freelance cartographer. She has published several atlases of fantasy worlds, such as Pern, the Land and Krynn, but is best known for The Atlas of Middle-earth.
