The term Kinslaying refers to the instances where Elves fought and killed other Elves. This happened only three times in history, and all of them where done by the Noldor during their quest to recover the Silmarils:
- The First Kinslaying, also known as the Kinslaying at Alqualondë, in which Telerin Elves were killed over the usage of their ships.
- The Second Kinslaying, also known as the Sack of Doriath, was fought over Dior's Silmaril.
- The Third Kinslaying, occurred at the Mouths of Sirion and was fought over Elwing's (Dior's daughter) Silmaril. The Third Kinslaying was considered the worst of the three.
