Tolkien compliments Edith while calling himself a pig, he had become engaged to her earlier the prior year. He discusses his time training at the University Officer's Training Corps while attending his final year as an undergraduate at Oxford. He mentions a story he is working on, The Story of Kullervo, which was never finished.
