Letter 1 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.


Summary

This letter was written to Edith Bratt at an unknown day but sometime during October of 1914. Tolkien compliments Edith while calling himself a pig, he had become engaged to her earlier the prior year. He discusses his time training at the University Officer's Training Corps while attending his final year as an undergraduate at Oxford. He mentions a story he is working on which is The Story of Kullervo which was never finished.
