Letter 10 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Summary

In this letter, dated 17 January 1937 and addressed to C. A. Furth of publishers Allen & Unwin, Tolkien discusses the illustrations for The Hobbit and Mr Bliss. In the latter case Allen & Unwin have requested that the lavish illustrations be simplified for production. Tolkien expresses surprise that the book and its illustrations are "worth so much trouble" but endeavours to fit the work in around his research. As it transpired he never found the time, and Mr Bliss was only published posthumously in 1982 with the original pictures. The illustrations for The Hobbit sent in Letter 9 on the other hand have been accepted, and Tolkien instructs the publisher on where they should be placed.
