Subject(s)The mocking end of the war

Letter 101 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

[edit] Summary

The Civil Defense was staging a stand-down parade and Tolkien said he would drag himself to it. But he felt it was a mockery. The War was not over, the part that was over was mostly lost, Wars are always lost, and The War always goes on. It was no good growing faint.
