Letter 176 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Summary

This is a fragment of a letter to Molly Waldron, dated November 30, 1955. It comments on the first episodes of the radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings that was airing at the time. Tolkien is less than happy. He calls to Norman Shelley's portrayal of Tom Bombadil "dreadful", but worse was that Goldberry was identified as his daughter, and the Willowman as an ally of Mordor.
