Letter 179 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Brogan had previously sent Tolkien a letter containing criticism that, in hindsight, he thought was stupid and tactless. Tolkien replied to him that he welcomed the criticism, and invited Brogan to write more, seeing as he pays such close attention to the books.
