Letter 216 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

This is a fragment of a letter, sent on August 12, 1959, to the Deputy Registrar of the University of Madras, India. Shortly before, the University appointed Tolkien to member of the Board of Examiners - without consulting Tolkien. In this fragment, Tolkien respectfully declines the Examinership, as he is retired and has no interest in teaching and examining anymore.
