Letter 288 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Summary

Tolkien writes to Norman Davis of Oxford University concerning a bust of Tolkien, due to be presented to the Faculty of English Library. It was made by Faith, Christopher Tolkien's (first) wife. Because Tolkien himself has his doubts about the durability of plaster, he offers to let it be set in bronze at his own expense.

Notes

  • The bust was bronzed, and is still on display at Exeter College.
