Letter 291

Date22 November 1966
Subject(s)C.S. Lewis

Letter 291 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Summary

Walter Hooper had sent a new volume of Of Other Worlds, a book of collected material of C.S. Lewis, who had died three year prior. Tolkien writes a two-sentence response, with a post scriptum saying how short that reply is. He comments on Lewis' dualistic mind, and calls "miserific vision" rationally nonsense and theologically blasphemous.
