Letter 304 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

After his retirement, Tolkien went to live on the south coast of England to avoid fans. He informed Clyde S. Kilby that Allen & Unwin would forward all his mail, and only a select few would know the actual address.

  • It is not implied whether Dr. Kilby was among the selected few, but it can be inferred he was not.
  • The address was 19, Lakeside Road, BH13 6 in Poole. The house was known as Woodridings.
  • The letter was only partially published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien; for other published excerpts cf. Clyde S. Kilby 4 June 1968.
