Letter 348 is a letter written by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Summary

This fragment of a letter, dated March 6, 1973, is sent to Mrs. Catharine Findlay. It deals with Galadriel. Tolkien tells her the name means "Maiden crowned with gleaming hair" in Sindarin, and that it was here secondary name. In her youth, she was of amazon disposition, and bound up her hair as a crown when taking part in athletic feats.
