On 12 October 1972, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Rayner Unwin.
- Subject: The printed appearance of colours of certain pictures in the Ballantine Tolkien Calendar, etc.
- Publication: Excerpts from the letter have been published in Amon Hen 70 (p. 3), in Christopher Tolkien's article "'Moria Gate'...Another Look". A shorter part of the letter (although the entry on the letter includes more descriptive information of the contents) was reprinted in The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide: Chronology (p. 767).
