On 8 June 1961, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Rhona Beare.

This is one of the two letters that were printed in the J.R.R. Tolkien's Letters to Rhona Beare, being the original of Letter 230.

  • Difference from Letter 230: Compared to this, Letter 230 omitted its first two paragraphs and final paragraph. The second paragraph is a translation of the Elvish hymn to Elbereth in The Lord of the Rings, which differs in detail from the literal translation given in The Road Goes Ever On.[1]
