Linaewen was a long, narrow lake within the vast marshland of reeds and pools that formed the Marshes of Nevrast, which were in the eastern lowlands of the country of Nevrast.[1] The margins of Linaewen abounded with wading birds of every kind.[2] It was from these birds that it took its name: Linaewen is Elvish for 'lake of birds'.[3]
