A loa (or löa, plural löar[1]) was a name used by the Elves for a single year; also called a Coranar.

The word was used especially in the north-western portions of the Westlands and (in contrast to the "astronomical" coranar) took into consideration (as generally the Elves did) the seasonal changes in vegetation.[2]
