[[Ancalimë]] was the only Heir of [[Tar-Aldarion]] of [[Númenor]], and as such was pursued by many noble suitors. To escape from these, she withdrew from court life, and hid among the pastoral lands of Emerië. There she met a man who seemed to be a simple shepherd, by the name of Mámandil. Their friendship grew, but at last she discovered that he was not a shepherd at all, but [[Hallacar]] son of [[Hallatan]], a nobleman of [[Hyarastorni]]. He sought her royal hand, and though she rejected him at first, at last they wed and produced a son, [[Anárion]], who would ultimately succeed his mother to become the [[King of Númenor]].

Mámandil is a Quenya word meaning "friend of sheep" and possibly also "shepherd".

"Mámandil" was the pseudonym of Hallacar of Hyarastorni while he wooed Ancalimë on the pastoral lands of Emerië.[1]
