Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. is an independent, privately-held motion picture, television, home video, and theatrical production and distribution company. Their most successful film to date is the 11-Oscar winning Ben-Hur.

MGM owns the distribution rights to The Hobbit, and a row with New Line Cinema prevented any movie adaptation. But now, the row is settled, and in 2010 and 2011, the release of The Hobbit and its sequel are scheduled.
