Mallos was a flower that grew in the vales of Lebennin in Gondor, described as having the shape and colour of a golden bell. Tolkien doesn't provide us with an explanation of the name: mallos seems to mean 'golden white', though (assuming that translation is correct) the significance of the word for 'white' here is not clear.
