Mellon pl. mellyn is the Sindarin term for friend.
Etymology
Possible OS *meldondo, root MEL
PQ could have been *meldô but perhaps the ending -ondo/-on was added because the final vowel disappears in Sindarin, and the word needed an ending. Without an ending it would become **mell which would be identical to the word for "love".
