At the suggestion of Frodo Baggins, Sam named one of his children after Merry Brandybuck.[1] Merry was born in S.R. 1427.[2]
Etymology
Merry is a translation of Hobbitish Westron (specifically, the Buckland dialect) Kali, meaning "jolly, gay".[3]
