Narmacil was the son of [[Atanatar II|Atanatar II Alcarin]], and inherited the Kingship when it was at the height of its power and wealth. He was not a great King, and indeed soon tired of the role. In [[Third Age 1240]], after just fourteen years on the throne, he turned over the rule of [[Gondor]] to his nephew [[Minalcar]], who ruled as [[Regent of Gondor|Regent]] through the rest of Narmacil's titular Kingship.

Narmacil I T.A. 1049[1] – 1294,[2] aged 245 years) was the seventeenth King of Gondor.

History

Narmacil inherited the Kingship from his father Atanatar II Alcarin in T.A. 1226.[2] He also seems to have inherited his father's indolent disposition for in 1240 he declared Minalcar, the son of his younger brother Calmacil, to be the Regent of the realm. During the remainder of Narmacil's reign Minalcar ruled in his name.[3]

Narmacil ultimately became second childless King of Gondor and was succeeded by his younger brother Calmacil.[2]
