Neekerbreekers - so named for the sound they produce - are large and loud relatives to the cricket. They dwelt in the Midgewater Marshes, so called by Sam Gamgee.
Etymology
Neekerbreekers were named so because of their sound, perhaps like that of a cricket.[1]
