Orcobal was the "champion of the Orcs" that was slain by Ecthelion in Gondolin.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
During the Fall of Gondolin, Orcobal was the champion of those Orcs which assailed the Gondothlim alongside the Balrogs at the coming of the Drakes. Orcobal was ultimately slain by Ecthelion of the Fountain, who, after killing two goblin captains, "cleft the head of Orcobal their chiefest champion to his teeth" before the gates of Gondolin.[2]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
Orcobal is clearly Gnomish, but it is not glossed.
Other versions of the legendarium[edit | edit source]
Orcobal never appeared within any of Tolkien's writing after "The Fall of Gondolin" in The Book of Lost Tales.
