Othrod was one of the three orcs named in the Fall of Gondolin as being slain by Tuor. Othrod was "a lord of the Orcs". The two other named orcs slain by Tuor were Balcmeg and Lug. We are also told that Ecthelion slew an orc named Orcobal, "their chiefest champion".
Othrod appears only in the The Book of Lost Tales. In the later versions of the story orcs are not named.
