After a couple months stay in [[Rivendell]], the Company set off on the arduous journey that lay ahead.


They begin by heading south into [[Eregion|Hollin]], and then attempting to cross the [[Misty Mountains]] by means of [[Caradhras]]. Stopped by snow, they turn around and pass into [[Moria]].  There they see the [[Balin's Tomb|Tomb of Balin]], much to the grief of Gimli.  Not long after, on the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, the Company meets the [[Balrog]], forcing them to depart from Gandalf.
The remaining eight members of the Fellowship, now led by Aragorn, entered [[Lothlórien]], where they spent a month in the care of [[Celeborn (Lord of Lórien)|Celeborn]] and [[Galadriel]]. They departed by swift Elven boats, and headed South over the [[Anduin]].  


The remaining eight members of the [[Fellowship of the Ring|Fellowship]], now led by Aragorn, continued on to Lothlórien. There they were greeted by [[Haldir of Lórien|Haldir]] and his brothers, and brought to [[Caras Galadhon]].  They stayed there for about a month, through the hospitality of [[Celeborn (Lord of Lórien)|Celeborn]] and [[Galadriel]].
And so they came to [[Nen Hithoel]] and the [[Emyn Muil]], where Boromir was slain, and the Fellowship was broken. Frodo and Sam crossed the river to the east and, after much toil, escaped the hills. With the help of [[Gollum]], they crossed the [[Dead Marshes]], and came in sight of the [[Black Gate]]. Unable to enter [[Mordor]], they went to the pass of [[Cirith Ungol]], but were divided by the treachery of Gollum. Frodo was stung by [[Shelob]] and taken prisoner. At the [[Tower of Cirith Ungol]], he was stripped of his affects, but the Sam managed to free him. The Ring had, at this stage, been taken by Sam, for safe-keeping.  


From Lórien the Company took boats given to them by the [[Galadhrim]], along with other valuable items, down the rivers [[Nimrodel (river)|Nimrodel]], and [[Anduin]] until they reached the [[Emyn Muil]].  Here the Fellowship was divided, and Boromir slain.

There they turned aside, and headed south for the [[Morgul Vale]]. Sméagol then led them to the path of [[Cirith Ungol]], and Frodo is captured by [[orcs]] and taken to the [[Tower of Cirith Ungol]].

After Sam finds Frodo, they escape, and travel to the Isenmouthe disguised as orcs.  Because of the chaos and confusion of the orcs pressing in to reach the Black Gate, the hobbits are able to sneak out and start on their way towards [[Mount Doom]].  In the end, Sméagol appears one last time to seize the [[The One Ring|Ring]], and falls with it to his death into the fiery chasm of Mount Doom.

The Quest of the Ring, also known as the Quest for Mount Doom, was the quest taken by the members of the Fellowship of the Ring to destroy the One Ring of Sauron to rid the evil in Middle-earth during the Third Age. It forms the center of the story of The Lord of the Rings.
