Template:Royalty infobox Rómendacil I (Third Age 310 – 541, aged 231 years) was born Tarostar, the son of Ostoher, King of Gondor. He in turn would become the eighth King of Gondor, ruling for 49 years, from Third Age 492 until his untimely death.

Late in his father's reign, a horde Easterlings invaded northern Ithilien. This was the first invasion of Gondor since the defeat of Sauron centuries earlier. Because Ostoher was too old to lead his army to war, Tarostar took charge of the campaign. After two years of fighting, Ostoher died, and Tarostar inherited the Crown. After another eight years of warfare, Tarostar finally returned home, triumphant. To celebrate his victory, he took the name Rómendacil ("East-victor").

Neither Rómendacil's triumph, nor Gondor's peace, were to last indefinitely. Some forty years after his first victory, the Easterlings massed once more, and again attacked the South-kingdom. Rómendacil did not survive the assault, and it was left to his heir Turambar to face the fierce eastern warriors.
