RAN is a Common Eldarin root signifying "wander, stray, meander, go on uncertain course".[1] There is also an alternative form of the root, RĂNĂ, said to signify "wander".[2]

[edit] Other versions

In the Etymologies appears the Primitive Quendian root RAN ("wander, stray"). Among its derivatives are:[3]

  • Quenya: ranya- ("to stray"); ráne ("straying, wandering"); ránen ("errant")
  • Noldorin: rhenio ("to stray"); rhaun ("errant"); rhandir

Notes

  1. The "i" in (a)raniā has an inverted breve below: ̯.
