Sarn Ford

Revision as of 10:50, 15 October 2010 by Mith (Talk | contribs)

Sarn Ford is the stone ford on the River Baranduin, on the far southern borders of the Shire. It was guarded by the Rangers of the North.

A road beginning at Michel Delving crosses the ford, which meets the Greenway further south. By this road Khamûl the Ringwraith entered the Shire during the War of the Ring

Etymology

The name is half-translation of the Elvish name Sarn-athrad.[1] Sarn means "stone"[2] or "stony".[3]

Inspirations

"Hall Green village was only a little distance away [from Sarehole] down a lane and across a ford."
