Second Fall of Minas Ithil

This article describes a concept which is mentioned in J.R.R. Tolkien's works, but was never given a definite name. |
The Second Fall of Minas Ithil was a siege that occurred from T.A. 2000 to T.A. 2002 when the Nazgûl recaptured Minas Ithil.
In the days of King Telemnar, during the Great Plague, the watch on Mordor was abandoned by Gondor and Minas Ithil was deserted. Dark things began returning to Mordor. Later, in T.A. 1980, the Witch-king re-entered Mordor and started gathering the Nazgûl. During the time of Eärnil II, in T.A. 2000, they began their assault on Minas Ithil. Coming over the passes of the Ered Wethrin in the night, they besieged the city. Minas Ithil fell in T.A. 2002, and it was afterwards called Minas Morgul, the Tower of Sorcery. Its palantír was captured, and it became a terrible place, too dreadful to look upon.[1][2]
