The same dream came to both Faramir and Boromir, and the road being too dangerous, Boromir took it upon himself to follow the lead his father had given him: that Imladris was where Lord Elrond dwelled in the north. There he met and attended the Council of Elrond, which provided the answer to the riddle. For also attending was a hobbit, who bore the One Ring, and also a Ranger, who carried Anduril, the sword used to cut the ring off Sauron's hand. Boromir went on to be a member of the Fellowship of the Ring
