The [[Seven Fathers of the Dwarves]], were the first [[Dwarves]] to awake in [[Middle Earth]].  The only one named by [[Tolkien]] was [[Durin I]] who awoke alone while the rest of the Dwarf fathers awoke in pairs.

These fathers each had their own clan of family.  The families that were paired together were:
 
1. [[Longbeards]]. Awoke alone.
 
2. [[Firebeards]] and [[Broadbeams]] awoke in the [[Ered Luin]].
 
3.  [[Ironfists]] and [[Stiffbeards]]. Awoke in the [[Orocarni]] (mountains of the East).
 
4.  [[Blacklocks]] and [[Stonefoots]]. Awoke in the Orocarni as well.
