Silmë Nuquerna is the name in Quenya of the thirtieth letter of the Tengwar alphabet.[1] In form it is an inversion of the twenty-ninth letter (Silmë). It is mostly used as a variation, especially in modes employing superimposed tehtar,[2] and it represents S. However, in the Mode of Beleriand, as seen as in the inscription on the West-gate of Moria,[3] Silmë Nuquerna represents vocalic Y.[4] The Westron name for this letter is Ós.[5]
