The Società Tolkieniana Italiana was founded in 1992 as a non-profit, non-political association. They publish two journals, Terra di Mezzo (Middle-earth) and Minas Tirith. Hobbiton is their annual three day national convention usually held in the first week of September. The society organises meetings, lectures, seminars, and art exhibitions around Tolkien's works.
