(Replaced Harondor with South Gondor, because only the term South Gondor is used in the appendices of LOTR and is thus better known and to avoid going through the Harondor redirect page to South Gondor, it is referred to as a fief in the entry for Gondor in J.R.R. Tolkien's Unfinished Index for LOTR)

Túrin II (Third Age 2815[1]2914,[2] aged 99 years) was the twenty-third Ruling Steward of Gondor.

History[edit | edit source]

Túrin succeeded his father Thorondir at his death in T.A. 2882.[2] Ithilien was further deserted because of infestation by Orcs of Mordor. It was Túrin who built secret refuges for his soldiers in Ithilien, of which Henneth Annûn was the longest guarded and manned. He also fortified the isle of Cair Andros to defend Anórien.[1][3]

During his time also the fief South Gondor was occupied by the Haradrim and there was fighting along the river Poros, until in 2885 they invaded Ithilien was invaded in great strength. His ally King Folcwine of Rohan fulfilled the Oath of Eorl and sent many men to Gondor. With their aid Túrin won a victory at the crossing of the river, though the princes Fastred and Folcred were slain.[4][3]

Túrin was followed by his son Turgon at his death in 2914.[2]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

For the meaning of his name refer to Túrin - Etymology. Túrin II was probably named after Túrin Turambar, a tragic hero of the Edain of the First Age.[5][6].
