Although the basic etymology of asta seems to be ‘part, division’ [‍42, pp. 20, 30; 48, p. 11], its use in calendars and chronology is attested only for the months of the Númenórean calendar, 12 to a year, and not for the divisions of the Eldarin year, as seen in the Calendar of Imladris, into 6 “periods that might be regarded either as long months or short seasons” [‍D]. Therefor I feel it is inappropriate to use astar to designate the ‘long months’/‘short seasons’ of the Calendar of Imladris in opposition to the Númenórean months. I have therefor removed this usage. — Mithrennaith 01:45, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Astar[edit source]

Although the basic etymology of asta seems to be ‘part, division’ [‍Vinyar Tengwar, Number 42, July 2001, pp. 20, 30; Vinyar Tengwar, Number 48, December 2005, p. 11], its use in calendars and chronology is attested only for the months of the Númenórean calendar, 12 to a year, and not for the divisions of the Eldarin year, as seen in the Calendar of Imladris, into 6 “periods that might be regarded either as long months or short seasons” [‍J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings, Appendix D]. Therefor I feel it is inappropriate to use astar to designate the ‘long months’/‘short seasons’ of the Calendar of Imladris in opposition to the Númenórean months. I have therefor removed this usage. — Mithrennaith 01:45, 30 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's right. I am going to rename the Numenorean months as astar then. Sage 12:05, 30 June 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
