:There isn't really any reason for the diareses as they are only there to remind English users not to pronounced the i and e together. On all other instances of ''ie'' in the middle of a word I can find, Tolkien does not use diareses (''Níniel'', ''Nienna'', ''-riel'', ''Lórien'','' Lúthien'', etc) - "''Nienor''" is also used in ''THOME'' a lot (notable example being ''The Lays of Beleriand'').
