Talk:Shire Calendar

I think that the Shire Reckoning is something different than the Shire Calendar. The Reckoning is the time reckoning of years since the Hobbits migrated to the Shire (1600 Third Age), while the Calendar is the reckoning of days, weeks and months within each seperate year. In RL, our Calendar runs from January 1st to December 31st, while our Reckoning is centered around the Birth of Christ. Two different things, if you'd ask me. So, I think there should be two seperate articles, in stead of linking the one to the other. --Earendilyon 16:04, 9 July 2006 (EDT)

Definitely a good idea. I need to get the python bot going which should be able to do mundane simple tasks such as fixing those links. But for now we can just add it to Tolkien_Gateway:Projects or somewhere similar and I'll get around to it sometime. --Hyarion 17:40, 9 July 2006 (EDT)

I just had the same thought, but found that it was contradicted in Appendix D: "This calendar, or 'Shire Reckoning' as it was called...". I think this article should be moved to Shire Reckoning though, as that's what Tolkien usually called it, and it fits with the other calendars of Middle-earth (Kings' Reckoning, Stewards' Reckoning). Someone could do to revise our date/calendar related articles in general actually, but I just can't bring myself to tackle it :/ —Aulë the Smith ^(Tk·Cb) 19:40, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
