Queen Elizabeth[edit source]

Something hit me when I just quickly read the etymology section - I happened to read Elizabeth instead of Elbereth! Elbereth, having the element bereth (queen), and Queen Elizabeth (I) - the similarity of the two names cannot be a mere coincidence! This must have been noted before? Surely Tolkien must have thought of this? --Morgan 14:40, 9 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mary[edit source]

I think the bit about the Valar being like the Catholic saints and Varda in particular being Mary should be removed. I checked Google and didn’t see anything along those lines. Folks can speculate all they want, but it appears to be pure speculation.--172.71.158.189 21:12, 6 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The similarities of Varda with the Virgin Mary can be found in Tolkien's letters and in so many scholarly studies. But I agree the section is poor in information and references. --LorenzoCB (talk) 21:16, 6 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If there are legitimate sources, they should be added. Otherwise it just looks like the site allows fanon.--172.71.154.29 22:43, 10 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
