Tar-Anducal was the royal name assumed by Herucalmo after the death of his wife, Tar-Vanimeldë, the third Ruling Queen of Númenor. Anducal means "Light of the West".
Tar-Vanimeldë had little interest in her duties as a ruler (preferring to indulge in music and dance). The power of the Sceptre was wielded by her younger husband (also a descendant in the same degree from Tar-Atanamir). When his wife died, Herucalmo usurped the kingship that should have passed on to their son and ruled Númenor for twenty years until he died in S.A. 2657. "Tar-Anducal" being an usurper was not reckoned in the Line of Kings as the seventeenth ruler of Númenor.
Upon his death the Kingship reverted to the rightful heir, Tar-Alcarin.[1]
