Tar-Anducal was the royal name assumed by Herucalmo after the death of his wife, Tar-Vanimeldë, the third Ruling Queen of Númenor.
History
Herucalmo was a descendant from Tar-Atanamir and married Tar-Vanimeldë who was an older relative of the same degree. Together they had a son, Alcarin. Tar-Vanimeldë had little interest in her duties as a ruler (preferring to indulge in music and dance) so Herucalmo wielded the power of the Sceptre of Númenor. When his wife died, Herucalmo usurped the kingship that should have passed on to their son, and ruled Númenor for twenty years until he died in S.A. 2657.
Upon his death the Kingship reverted to the rightful heir, Tar-Alcarin.[1]
"Tar-Anducal" being an usurper was not reckoned in the Line of Kings as the seventeenth ruler of Númenor.
Etymology
Herucalmo means "Lord of Light" in Quenya (from heru, 'lord', cala, 'light', and the masculine agentive suffix -mo).
Anducal means "Light of the West".
