The Annotated Hobbit is an edition of The Hobbit which features commentary to the text by Douglas A. Anderson, drawing upon writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. The book was published to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first American publication of The Hobbit.
In 2002, a revised and expanded edition of the book was released.
In 2012, a German translation of The Annotated Hobbit: Revised and Expanded Edition is released, as Das Große Hobbitbuch (Klett-Cotta Verlag, Stuttgart), with The Hobbit translated by Wolfgang Krege; introduction and annotations translated by Lisa Kuppler.
