Agenda and Outcome

Item Responsible Member Discussion Point Outcome
#1 KingAragorn Meeting opening. Amroth, Hyarion, KingAragorn, Mith, and Morgan were all present at the start of the meeting. mithrennaith joined later.
#2 Morgan Concepts only mentioned in Unfinished Tales (like Eryn Vorn) - are these to be considered non-canon (or having a "lower" place in a canon grade)? It was agreed that concepts only mentioned in The Unfinished Tales should be considered canon unless contradicted by sources that are considered 'more canon'.
#3 Mith Singular/plural article names policy (warning: I prefer singular). Following a lengthy discussion a vote was held. It was decided 4-3 that singular names should be used baring obvious exceptions (i.e. Noldor would remain Noldor and would not be moved to Noldo). Attendees who voted against the notion then noted their disapproval for democratic principles.
#4 Mith and Morgan Whether multiple names need to be redirected. And if redirected, what guideline should we have for putting these redirects in categories. The former discussion was very lengthy and no agreement was reached; however it was decided that the discussion should be continued on-wiki in a forum page. The latter discussion regarding categorising redirects was unwittingly overlooked.
#5 Mith Discuss this. It was decided that we should remove the said article because of its lack of value to the encyclopaedia. However it was also agreed that Tolkien Gateway would not simply remove articles on request; instead it would judge an articles worth to the Tolkien Gateway project. Morgan's suggestion that we should remove all articles about games that are not licensed was rebuked.
#6 Mith and KingAragorn Mith has suggested that Tolkien Gateway should become a charity. The community should approve or disapprove of the suggestion, and arrange a special meeting to flesh out the idea. Various thoughts were thrown in and it was agreed that a special meeting would be held on 31 July 2011 to discuss the idea in depth.
#7 Morgan Start with lower-case letters in articles on words? It was agreed that lower-case letting in articles could be achieved using the {{DISPLAYTITLE:TEXT}} feature.
#8 Amroth Continue the discussion about minor plant articles (if there are enough people) This discussion was postponed because Amroth had left the meeting by this time.
#9 KingAragorn Meeting adjournment. N/A
