Tolkien Gateway:Requested articles

Revision as of 18:51, 22 April 2006 by Narfil Palùrfalas (Talk | contribs)

This page contains a list of requested articles. If you have an idea for an article simply add it to the list below.

Tengwar Unicode Standard

  • A petition to get Tengwar into the standard Unicode.
  • For the wiki, possibly setup an extension so if Tengwar fonts are installed, the visitors sees Tengwar text, if not the Tengwar text is replaced with Tengwar images of the text.

  • A group of FAQ articles linked together to one index page, similar to the Tolkien Meta-FAQ.

Why is J.R.R. Tolkien so popular?

  • An article which lists reasons why J.R.R. Tolkien and his works are so popular and entertaining.

  • An article which focuses on petitioning Google to create a Tolkien or LotR themed logo for January 3rd, Tolkien's birthday.

J.R.R. Tolkien Timeline

  • A timeline recording anything and everything that happened to J.R.R. Tolkien

Real World Timeline

  • A timeline which includes the J.R.R. Tolkien timeline but also includes any and all other events that have happened not necessarily directly related to Tolkien, such as The Lord of the Rings conventions, when books were released, Tolkien Society events, just everything.

Year articles

  • An article for every year of our real world starting with Tolkien's birth. Would include subheadings for the months and days and may include information too minor for the timeline mentioned above.

Middle-earth Year articles

  • This may be me being anal but what about having a page for "T.A. 2,567" and "S.A. 35" etc. Most years would be empty or simply contain one entry, but I think it would be worth it. --Hyarion 02:00, 21 April 2006 (EDT)
    • If this is too much we could always slowly separate them. For example converting First Age, Second Age, etc. Then taking another step and maybe F.A. 1,000 F.A. 2,000, etc. then another step, F.A. 500, F.A. 1500, then another, and another, etc. --Hyarion 02:00, 21 April 2006 (EDT)
      • One thing that may be a problem is that not all Tolkien scholars agree on the dates, and in the different works they are often conflicting. According to the most common timeline used Eärendil was born in 503 of the First Age and his famous voyage was in 583. This is impossible, as Elves did not marry this young, and he would hardly have time for all his famous voyages. This is an example of the problems with pinpointing exact dates.
