Tolkien Studies: Volume 1, published in 2004, is the first volume of the annual review Tolkien Studies.

Carl F. Hostetter's article reprints the 1944 Middle English version of Sir Orfeo by J.R.R. Tolkien, it analyses the differences and similarities between this version and the Modern English version of it, also by Tolkien. The latter was published in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo in 1975.
