Ulbar was a Man of Númenor who dwelt in the grassland region known as Emerië with his wife and his son Îbal. He originally herded the sheep of Hallatan of Hyarastorni. Hallatan was kin to the King's Heir Aldarion, and Ulbar was drawn to Aldarion's seafaring Guild of Venturers. He sailed with Aldarion to Middle-earth in the great ship Hirilondë. On his return, years later, Aldarion gave Ulbar's wife a ring set with a scarlet jewel, which had been a gift from Gil-galad himself.
